We've added another race to our calendar - The 34th Annual Franklin Classic this coming Labor Day. For our out of state readers, Franklin is an adorable town just South of Nashville. There are really cute shops, yummy restaurants, and lots of history (waaay back to the Civil War). If you ever make it to Nashville, you should definitely carve out some time to visit.
This will be Team G Shock's 35th race, and we're excited to try a new course! We've never run a race in Franklin so it should be fun, and maybe we'll see some familiar faces on the course!
Until then....GOOOOOO G SHOCK!

Bibs - Not Just For Babies Anymore
Last weekend, I was lucky enough to spend the weekend at my favorite place in the world: The Beach House! My best friends from JMU and I have gone up there almost every Summer since graduation, and hopefully it will continue for many more years. We've seen lots of changes (new jobs, marriages & babies), but that girls weekend will always be something I look forward to.
This years beach trip!
KT, Kellen, Hiney, Larissa (+baby) & me
While we were at the house, I noticed a stack of bibs on my parents dresser. Now, I know what you may be thinking, why are they hoarding bibs? Bibs are a staple in every household with small children. Even some older children (ahem, me) use bibs from time to time. I may or may not have had a UVA bib when I was younger that we kept around much longer than we probably should, only for spaghetti nights. I had a terrible habit of always getting sauce on my clothes, and it became kind of a tradition.
Now that we're older, Nate, myself, my Dad and everyone else that runs with Team G Shock, are collecting a different kind of bib! At every race, we get a bib with a number on it, and dutifully pin it to our Team G Shock shirts. Nate & I have saved every bib we've gotten, which for those of you keeping track is 34 bibs each!
My Dad has run a number of races with Nate & I, but he has also run a number of races by himself up at the beach. The bibs on the dresser were from all of those races. Its a little hard to see, but there are 9 bibs in that stack, all of which have been run after his diagnosis. And this doesn't count all of the races he's run at home. Pretty impressive if you ask me!
Nate & I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, so hopefully Dad will be able to collect even more bibs along the way!

Event #34 - East Nashville Tomato 5k
This was the 3rd year in a row that Nate & I have run the Tomato 5k and it just keeps getting better. This is probably one of, if not THE hardest courses we run. There are hills, and then hills, and then more hills. And generally, since this race takes place in August in Tennessee, its very very hot. Well this year we lucked out! It was around 75 degrees at start time - amazing!
A few of our friends from Crossfit CFT were participating in the race this year, and a few more of our CFT friends came to cheer us on. We also ran into some of my co-workers before and after the race, which was fun. Over 1600 runners and walkers took part in the race this year so it was a miracle we saw anyone we knew!
We were excited to see how we would do, since we've been improving our times over the last year. As a reference, last year Nate finished this race at 29:24 and I came in at 31:13. Not our best times anymore, but at the time that was pretty good/average for us.
Here are the official results from this years race:
269th place - Nate Towne - 26:35
431st place - Sara Towne - 28:57
For those of you keeping track, that is a new PR for Nate (wahoo!), and a course PR for both of us! We were so excited, especially since Nate improved his time on this course by 2:49 and I improved my time by 2:16 from only 1 year ago. Not too shabby!
We enjoyed this race more than normal, possibly because our times have improved, and it was fun to see some friends before and after the race!
We had some fun walking around the tomato festival after the race - its something to see for sure! If you're ever in Nashville for the festival, be sure to stop by!

Race This Weekend!
This Saturday, Nate & I will be running Team G Shock Race #34 - The East Nashville Tomato 5k. We have run this race twice before (here and here), so we're ready for the course. Its another hilly one (when will we learn?) but we're excited to take on the challenge and see how we improve.
The race starts at 7:30am, so if you're the early rising type, come on out and cheer all of the runners on! Last year there were over 1100 runners so there are plenty of people to watch!
And if you are able to make it, stay after the race to enjoy the Tomato Arts Festival! I promise you that you won't find more tomato related art, food, or drinks anywhere else!
