Another Race!

To prepare for the big race in October, we're going to have to keep on running (duh). So, we've signed up for another race, happening much sooner.

For the 3rd time, we're going to run the Bethany Beach Firecracker 5k while we're at the beach with my family. As usual, my Dad will be running with us, and I think we've even talked Drew into doing it again! This was the first race we ever ran for Team G Shock, and its a favorite. Its flat, my family is there (some running with us), and we get to go to the beach after we run. What's not to like???

We're looking forward to running the course again, and for the sand & sun we get to enjoy after!

We're Baaaaack..and in a BIG way!

I know its been a long while since we posted on here, and even longer since we ran in a race. We put a lot of effort into our 40th race, and about 2 weeks after that we closed on our new home. Since then we've been moving, and moving more stuff, and then unpacking all of that stuff. Oh, and in the middle of all of that, I thought it would be smart to start a new job. In fact, it was smart (b/c I love it!), but some things, including this blog, have taken a back seat.

But, we are officially back, and with a big announcement! For a while now, Nate & I have talked about running a big race. We ran the Army Ten Miler way back in 2010 for our 20th race, and while it had its challenges, we really enjoyed the experience. We ran that race with my Dad, and he has run the Army Ten Miler a number of times over the years. In fact, this year will be his 20th time taking to the course. To celebrate that accomplishment with him, Nate & I have officially signed up! And its a good thing we did! The registration opened late last night, and all 35,000 entries were SOLD OUT by this morning.

So come October, we will be back in DC for another turn at the Army Ten Miler. We're so excited to join my Dad for this race, and are really looking forward to it. We will be running a few races between now & then, so keep an eye out for those!

After the race in 2010! HOOAH!

For Boston...

Its been a little bit since we posted, and we have had lots going on since our 40th race. But today I wanted to write a short post to reflect on the events of this past week. When I heard the news of what happened at the marathon, I was in complete shock. I myself have never run a marathon, but having run a number of races, I know the elation and joy that comes from crossing the finish line. When you get to that point (especially in longer races), you feel such relief and happiness because you accomplished a goal. I can not imagine the terror and fear that what happened brought to the runners and spectators that day.

Our thoughts & prayers are with the people of Boston, the United States, and the World that were affected by Monday's events. Justice will prevail, and the marathon will run again, as it always has, on the 3rd Monday of April because that's what we do. We keep going.

To quote President Obama, "..of that I have no doubt. You WILL run again."

Event #40 - Tom King Classic 5k

It has been a couple of weeks since our 40th race, the Tom King Classic 5k. We were completely overwhelmed by the support we received for this race. Not only through all of the donations we were given (over $2500 in the weeks leading up to the race alone), but especially by the people who signed up to run with us.

On the morning of the race, we had 9 total runners, all in Team G Shock shirts! It was a little chilly, but once the race started it warmed up. Nate & I had run this course before, so we knew it was flat and a fairly easy course to run. We all started together, and even got a group photo before the race.

The whole gang before the start.
Ashely, Morgan, Honnah, me, Nate, Sam, Rosemary, Travis and John.

We all spread out once we got going, but it was great to see our teammates (and new shirts!) along the way. And it was really fun to see some blue shirts up on the jumbotron at the finish line!

Here are everyone's results:

Nate Towne - 142nd place - 26:30
John Monson - 150th place - 26:50
Travis Frady - 174th place - 27:27
Ashley Hall - 183rd place - 27:52
Rosemary Radford - 189th place - 28:04
Sara Towne - 198th place - 28:17
Samantha Storey - 225th place - 29:37
Honnah Bakhtiary - 379th place - 36:40
Morgan Green - 380th place - 29:37

Everyone was pretty happy with their results, and we had a really good time having some teammates out there with us! We're looking forward to running some more races soon, hopefully with some of our new runners!

As always, enjoy some pictures from race day...and...GOOOO G SHOCK!

Our Race 40 Supporters!

Before we get to the details of our 40th race, which we can't wait to share, we wanted to take a moment to thank each and every person who joined us for this race - whether that was by actually running with us, or by donating to the cause, or both! We started this campaign exactly 6 weeks ago. In that time, we received 51 donations for a total of $2580 raised for this race alone. That brings our all-time donations to $8445, which is so close to our goal! Without all of the people below, and the rest of our supporters (listed on our Honor Roll), we never could have made it this far. Each and every donation not only helps motivate us on our runs, but also helps get the world one step closer to finding a cure!

So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for everything you have all done to help us. We are so touched by the support, and will keep going as long as it takes.

Team G Shock's 40th Race = THIS WEEK!

That's right...we are getting closer and closer to race day for our 40th race, and we can't wait! We had an AMAZING week thanks to all of our family and friends (and some of their families and friends).

We gained 4 (that's right) new runners this week, and are SO excited to have them all join us! Signing up this week were Honnah Bakhtiary and Morgan Green from Nate's office, and John Monson and Samantha Storey from my office. We are excited to have so many people running along side us on Saturday!

We were also able to make some big gains in the fundraising department, thanks to our new runners and some other friends! I especially enjoyed the donations received on my birthday on Thursday...it really made the day even more special!

We have raised a total of $2,440 during our race #40 campaign, which brings our total for Team G Shock so far to $8,305! We are SO close to our goal of $10,000, and we have YOU all to thank!

The race will kick off this Saturday (March 9th), and we will need all of the support we can get! If you're in Nashville, come on out and cheer us on - good news, it will be WAY warmer than last weekend. If you are one of our far away friends, please send good thoughts for all of our Team G Shock runners!
