Event #33 - Firecracker 5k

We've been back from the beach for almost a week, and I think we're finally coming back down to earth. We had a wonderful time with family and friends, and were excited to get a race in while we were there. We ran the 4th Annual Bethany Beach Firecracker 5k, which raises money for the 4th of July parade in town. As I have mentioned before, this race was actually the very first race that Team G Shock ran over 3 years ago! It was fun to get to run it again, especially with my Dad & one of my brothers with us.

The morning of the race, we headed down to the beach with our spectators (Mom, Jenny & Lily) and got ready for the race. It was hot, but it is the beach in July, so we expected that. There were about 400 runners, which was about double from the first time we ran this race.

Before the race, Nate & I had talked about trying to challenge me a bit. I seem to be stuck in a bit of a pace rut - I'm used to the pace I've been running for 3 years, but I can run faster now. So, since this course was about as flat as flat can be, we decided to try to run a little faster (and for me to try to keep up with Nate). I'm happy to report that we did it, and I have a new PR to prove it (and Nate ran his second fastest race ever)!! :) It wasn't easy, and will definitely take some more practice to have that as my natural pace, but we were excited that our little experiment worked. Drew & Dad did a great job with the race as well, and it helped us all to have our cheering squad along the course!

Here are the results:

118th place - Nate Towne - 27:43
120th place - Sara Towne - 27:45
280th place - Joe Ross - 38:28
283rd place - Drew Ross - 39:25

And thanks to our cheering squad, we have more pictures than normal.
