Sand, Surf & A Race!

Today we are hitting the road for my absolute favorite place on this Earth - Bethany Beach! :) My family has been going there since I was about 14, and I wouldn't trade this little beach town for anything. Most of the family will be joining us, which always makes for a fun 4th of July. The past few years we have run a race while we've been up there, and this year is no exception!

We'll be running the Firecracker 5k in Bethany on Sunday, and we can't wait! This was the very first race that Team G Shock ever ran almost exactly 3 years ago, so it will be fun to run it again! Nate, myself and my Dad are running it, and I think we've convinced my brother Drew to join us as well. No pressure brudder, but now that I've put it on the internet, you kind of have to.

I'll have an update and photos once we get back from our trip.

Ahhhhhhh...

Event #32 - Dash For Dad 2012

For the 4th year in a row, we ran the Dash for Dad race (previously known as the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge). Its been a fun race for us, especially since it is for our very favorite cause - finding a cure for prostate cancer.

This year, they changed the time of year and location of the race which made for a much tougher (hillier) course. We were excited to see how we did compared to past years, and especially on the new course!

The race started in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame and immediately started to head up Demonbreun Street. For those of you who don't live in Nashville, its a hill. The whole time. :) The race then took us up Music Row, and then looped around for the way back. The only good thing about going uphill for almost 2 miles is that the way back is pretty much downhill!

Nate set yet ANOTHER PR, and I kept my time under 30:00 as promised. I was hoping to go a little faster, but those hills got me! Here are the official results:

62nd place - Nate Towne - 26:54
118th place - Sara Towne - 29:50

We were pretty pleased with those results, and are looking forward to our next race (especially since its at the beach. Beach = FLAT). At the START/FINISH line area, they had set up a little festival with vendors, face painting, snacks and even a dunk tank! We hung out around the festival for a little and then went on to enjoy the rest of our Father's Day Weekend. And a quick note about the week of this race - it marked 3 years since Team G Shock first started! Its hard to believe, but with the help of our family & friends (and even some strangers) we have been able to run 32 races and raise over $5,000! So thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for that! Can't wait to see what the next 3 years bring!

Gotta hydrate after those hills!

Update!

Last week, I mentioned that we had been transferred over to a new donation page with Athletes For A Cure. In that transfer, a few changes have been made. Most of them are great, but one that we're not huge fans of is the removal of the Honor Roll. We were proud to see the names of all of the wonderful people that have helped Team G Shock on our way to raising $10,000 right there on our donation page.

Well, just because they got rid of it, doesn't mean we have to. If you look closely, at the top of our blog you will see a new tab titled "HONOR ROLL". This is the complete list of every single person that has donated to Team G Shock, and hopefully we can add some more names to it soon! It was amazing to see all of the names again and remember all of the wonderful people from all parts of our lives that have helped us in this. People from our childhoods, high school, college, Nashville friends, our family friends, coworkers, etc. We truly feel blessed and know that we will be able to reach our goal of $10,000 because of the amazing people in our lives!

So take a minute when you have the chance and check out the new & improved Team G Shock Honor Roll!

Happy Father's Day!

Today is a day we are especially grateful for here at Team G Shock and we just wanted to take a quick moment to say Happy Day to both of our Dads! We miss you both and can't wait to see you all hopefully soon!

We hope that our Dads, and all of the other Dads out there (including my brudder Drew) have a WONDERFUL day doing whatever it is they would like to do! Enjoy - you've earned it!

New Donation Page!

Athletes For A Cure, the organization that raises money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation through athletic events of all types has had a bit of a makeover. With that makeover, comes a new donation page for us!

The DONATION tab at the top of the page will take you the new page, or follow the link below:

http://www.pcf.org/afac12/teamgshocksara

Some of the information is still being updated (our "honor roll" that lists all of our wonderful donors especially), so please be patient with that!

We're off to race #32 in the morning - wish us luck!

Tomatoes or Bust!

We have added yet another race to our calendar (see it over there ----->) for the Summer! For the third year in a row we will be running the East Nashville Tomato 5k this coming August. We're excited to try the course again and maybe convince some friends to join us (hint, hint). Come one, come all...last one to the finish line is a rotten tomato!!

Up The Hills We Go!

And when I say UP and HILL, I mean it. On Saturday we will run the Dash For Dad (previously known in TN as the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge). This is the 4th time we've run this one (see here, here and here for how we did before). The first 2 times we ran this race, the course was the same. The most recent time we ran it, the course was in the same area but a little different. And this time the race is in a completely different area and comes with many more (and steep) hills. We're excited for the challenge, and can't wait to see how we do!

The race will be a nice way to spend part of Father's Day Weekend as we remember why we started Team G Shock. We'll be thinking of our Dad's, and all of yours (and brothers and uncles and grandpas and friends) while we take to the course on Saturday morning.

Wish us luck!!
